The Soul

of Your Shoe

At this festival, we will explore our history and our stories through shoes, real and magical, new or worn, exploring which shoes we put on, who they help us to be and where they are going to take us.

Out & About

This festival will have a number of inspirational activities around the theme of shoes:

  • a shoe museum – a community project in which members share the stories of their shoes which will be on display;

  • a breakout session in which participants discover the big wide world of shoes;

  • a visit from a local service organisation who collect and distribute shoes to communities in SE Asia; incorporated with a shoe drive with festival participants;

  • a performance from a storyteller sharing stories from around the world – “walking in someone else’s shoes”.

Educational Connections

This weekend festival provides an exposure to, and experimentation of, various theatre skills and styles. Learning focuses on the acquisition of new skills and how to use ensemble (groups of 20-25) to develop skills within the devising process.

Our GEMS students will gather with students from other international school from Singapore for 2 1/2 days of collaborative workshops and full group work.

Workshops provide unique learning opportunities allowing students to engage in workshops and devising of theatrical pieces. Students also gain exposure to both the stage and technical side of theatre arts.

“ISTA was so much fun and we got to y to make new friends and do fun drama with them.” Toby Russell (GEMS ISTA kid 2018)
